Natspec Award Win!

We are thrilled to announce that we have been named as winners of the Natspec Inter-disciplinary working award at a virtual ceremony!

The Natspec Awards’ aim is to recognise and celebrate excellent practice in the specialist further education sector, and this category focuses on the joint working between different disciplines within an organisation.

Our entry detailed our Positive Behaviour Support initiative that is linked to Zones of Regulation and the new Be Healthy, Active and Courageous project, all of which have the learner at the centre with a focus on health and well-being. A programme of workshops was been created and is one of the biggest professional development timetables the college has ever delivered.

The judge from Natspec said; “Portland College interdisciplinary staff and students should be proud champions of their PBS/Zones of Regulation/Be Healthy, Active and Courageous initiative. This is an excellent example of working together across disciplines for the benefit of students and their families not only in college, but in every part of their everyday lives.” Angela Newton-Soanes, Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Quality is thrilled with this outcome; “I want to firstly thank Natspec for this recognition of this project. I try to tell staff members every day that their huge amounts of hard work are appreciated, but I am hopeful that receiving this award will give them all a big boost and a pat on the back from a national body. We are incredibly thankful to Joe and Anna from Recharged Wellbeing who have helped us to develop this project. You should all be hugely proud!”
